What happened today?
One line is enough.
Writeline is a small, friendly diary. Type a line about something that happened, like coffee with a friend or a run by the lake, and it’s saved in about ten seconds. Keep going, and those little lines grow into a story of your days that you can scroll back through, search and see in charts.

As easy as sending a text
Most diaries ask for a page. Writeline asks for a line. That’s what makes it easy to keep up, even on busy days.
Write one line
Say what happened, the way you’d tell a friend. That’s a whole entry. If you’d like to add what you thought about it, there’s room for one more line underneath.
Writeline tidies up
It gives your line a label, like ATE or MET, and lights up the people and places you mention. It even tells you which word it went by, so nothing happens behind your back. Tap to change anything.
Look back whenever you like
Scroll back through your days, open a single day to see how it went, search for a name, or see a whole year of your life in one colorful picture.
A color for every kind of moment
You never have to choose a label. Writeline reads your line and picks one for you, and you can always pick another. Each one has its own color, so a week of your life is easy to take in at a glance.
There’s also a WEEK RECAP for the days you feel like looking back over your week. And the words Writeline listens for are yours to change, so it learns to speak the way you do.
Little touches that make it easy to keep going
Writeline stays out of your way while you write, and gives you lots of lovely ways to look back once you have.
It remembers your people and places
Put a + before a person, an @ before a place or a # before a tag, and Writeline remembers it. After that, just typing the name is enough. Tap any name to see every line it’s in.
It notices how things left you
Write “wonderful” or “wiped out” and Writeline quietly marks the line #uplifting or #draining. Over time you’ll see what fills you up and what wears you down.
Photos and a map of your places
Add a photo to any line. Pin the places that matter to you and see them on a world map. The map is built into the app, so it works without the internet.
Find your way back to any day
Flip to the day view to see one day laid out from morning to night, or tap the date to jump to any day you like. Search by a person, a place, a tag or a few words to find that one evening you’re thinking of.
Charts about your life
See a whole year as colored dots, who you’ve been spending time with, how often the things you tag really happen, and which days lift you up.
A gentle evening nudge
Turn on a reminder if you’d like one. It only comes on days you haven’t written anything yet, and it never shows what you wrote.
Quick ways in
Touch and hold the app icon and tap Log a line. On Android there’s a home-screen widget and a Quick Settings tile too, and on iPhone you can ask Siri to log a line in Writeline.
A lock for your diary
Turn on Face ID, Touch ID, your fingerprint or your passcode, and Writeline asks for it before your log opens. Your log stays hidden in the app switcher, too.
Make it feel like yours
Choose the font your words are written in, from a crisp typewriter to a handwritten notebook, and make them bigger if you like. Pick light or dark, or let Writeline follow your phone.
No streaks. No guilt.
Missed a few days? That’s okay. Writeline doesn’t count streaks or keep score. A quiet stretch simply shows up as a soft line in your log, and you pick up right where you left off.
Life has busy weeks and slow ones. Your diary should be glad to see you either way.
Your diary is yours alone
A diary is personal, so Writeline was built to keep it that way. Everything you write is kept on your phone, and we never see any of it.
- No account, no sign-up, no email address.
- No servers. Writeline never sends your log anywhere unless you ask it to.
- No ads, no tracking, no analytics.
- Your words are never used to train AI.
- On Android, Writeline doesn’t even have permission to use the internet.
Take it with you
Export your whole log, with or without your photos, any time and for free. Open it on a new phone and everything comes back, with no duplicates.
One honest note
If your phone backs itself up to iCloud or Google, that backup can include your log, just like your other apps. That backup belongs to Apple or Google, not to us. And if you buy the unlock, Apple or Google handles the payment. Nothing from your log goes with it.
Free to keep. Pay once to look further back.
Writeline is free to download, with no ads and no subscription. Writing is always free, and so is everything from the last 30 days.
Everything you need to keep a log
- Write, edit and delete as many lines as you like
- Everything from the last 30 days, in every view: your log, the day view, the calendar, search and the map
- Charts for this month and last month
- Labels, the words behind them, fonts, text size, and light or dark
- The evening reminder and the lock
- Export and import of your whole log, always
For when your log has grown
- Read back further. Everything older than 30 days, in your log, the calendar, search and the map.
- All your charts. Every month and every year you’ve logged.
- Color. Recolor the header, the buttons and the labels.
You’ll see the price in the App Store or Google Play before you buy. The unlock belongs to your Apple ID or Google account, so you can restore it on a new phone. And whether you unlock or not, your entries are never locked away: every one stays on your phone, and you can always export them all.
Questions, answered
Can’t find what you need? Email us at spicy.ginger.labs@gmail.com and we’ll help.
Where can I get Writeline?
Writeline is free on Google Play for Android phones and tablets. The iPhone and iPad version is coming soon to the App Store.
Do I need an account?
No. Open the app and start writing. There’s nothing to sign up for, and no password to remember.
Does Writeline need the internet?
No. Everything works offline, the map included. The only time another company is involved is if you buy the unlock, and that goes through Apple or Google.
What if I skip a day, or a week?
Nothing bad happens. There are no streaks to break. Your log just notes the quiet days, and you carry on whenever you’re ready.
How do I move my log to a new phone?
In Settings, choose Export. You can take just your words, or your words and photos together. Save the file somewhere your new phone can reach, like iCloud Drive or Google Drive, then import it on the new phone. Importing never makes duplicates, so it’s safe to do more than once. If you bought the unlock, it follows your Apple ID or Google account to the new phone. If it doesn’t show up right away, tap Restore Purchase.
What happens if I delete the app?
Deleting the app deletes your log from that phone too, so please export a copy first if you’d like to keep it.
Can I use it on my iPad or tablet?
Yes. Writeline works on iPhone and iPad, and on Android phones and tablets. Because nothing is synced, each device keeps its own log. Export and import are how you carry a log from one to another.
What happens to my entries if I don’t buy the unlock?
They stay right where they are. You can keep writing for as long as you like, read the last 30 days any way the app offers, and export everything at any time.
